Home Remedies That Can Give Your Child Instant Relief From Nausea

Children often throw up due to motion sickness, food poisoning or after catching a virus. It’s pretty common and nothing to be too worried about. However, as a parent, you’re bound to be worried if your child keeps throwing up. If it’s your first child, you may not be sure how to comfort your child, especially if s/he is fussy about taking pills and medicines.

Keep Them Hydrated

If your child keeps vomiting, they will feel dehydrated and tired. Ensure they drink enough water to replenish their body fluids and make them feel more energetic. Yes, ORS is a good idea. However, keep in mind, too much water may end up making them feel nauseous again. 

Make Them Eat Light

Throwing up could make them feel hungry. However, don’t give your child solid food right away and avoid oily, greasy, or sweet foods. At least not for 12 hours after they stop vomiting. It’s advisable to give them a clear vegetable broth, saltine crackers, or even plain bread.

Ginger Juice With Honey

When it comes to rooting out nausea, nothing works like ginger. Just grate a bit of ginger and squeeze the juice out. It doesn’t sound very appetizing, right? Well, add a dash of honey to make it more palatable for your child. Having ginger juice like this about thrice a day should work wonders.   

If your child is slightly older, you may give him or her some ginger tea as well.     

Mint Juice

Chewing on some fresh mint leaves can give instant relief. However, most children will be happier to have it in the form of mint leaf infused lime juice. If you have peppermint at home, sucking on one could give your child great relief too.

Kanji or Rice Water

If you’re cooking rice, don’t throw away the starch water. You could use the starch water (after half boiling the rice) to give your child instant relief from gastritis induced nausea. 

Cardamom Seeds

This aromatic spice acts fast and gives great relief from nausea and vomiting. Crush some cardamom seeds and mix them with a bit of castor sugar for taste. We’re sure your little one will ask for more.    

Fennel Seeds

You could boil a teaspoon of fennel seeds and give to your child 3 to 4 times a day. Fennel seeds have antimicrobial properties which helps in keep the digestive tract of your little one calm. And beautifully deals with the nauseas and vomiting in your child. 

Clove Tea

You could boil some clove sticks and add a teaspoon of honey (or as per your child’s taste). Older children can chew or suck on a clove stick.   

Chamomile Tea

Giving your child a couple of cups of chamomile tea a day will prevent nausea. You can prepare the chamomile tea and add a teaspoon of honey to make it more appealing.

Saunf

Fennel seeds or saunf are known for their antimicrobial properties that have a calming effect on the stomach. Boil a teaspoon full of fennel seeds in water for 10 minutes, strain it, and serve it to your little one.  

Cumin Seeds

Ease the queasy feeling after vomiting with cumin. Cumin seeds, or jeera, is known for providing quick relief from that uncomfortable feeling. Roast and crush a teaspoon of cumin seeds and add it to a glass of hot water.    

Apple Cider Vinegar

Known for its antimicrobial properties, apple cider vinegar is a great anti-nausea agent. Just shake the bottle of apple vinegar well before adding a teaspoon of it to warm water. Add a teaspoon of honey and feed it to your child.

Smelling of Scents

Aromatherapy or smelling a few scents including lavender, lemon, rose, peppermint and cloves oil may keep incidence of nausea and vomiting low.

Acupuncture

Studies from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, claims that, applying pressure to the point of P-6, below the index finger or inner wrist can give your child relief from nausea.
